An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today January 31, 2019 to determine compliance with licensing standards. The inspector initiated the inspection at 9:30 am and concluded the inspection at 12:15 pm. The Director participated in the inspection. Upon the inspectors arrival children were participating in activities that incorporated the theme for the day "Super Heros". Children and staff through out the facility were dressed as super heros as part of their "Awesome Kids Week". Children in the two pre-school classrooms were making super hero puppets gluing mask and capes onto paper bags, writing in their journals, easel painting, playing at the light table and grouping plastic dinosaurs according to the number of dots on dominos. In the infant room children were observed playing on the floor with staff. Children played with soft toys and balls. One infant was being held and fed a bottle. Staff participated in play and interacted with the infants in a positive manner. Children in the 2 year old class worked with clay and cookie cutters, constructed towers with large lego blocks, played in the sensory table and identified numbers matching cloths pins to the number on the card. Toddlers listened to stories, sang songs and did an art project. The junior kindergarten class as a group identified the parts of a book before reading the story, Kakado Jack, together. Children found site words repeating them to the tune of farmer and the dell. Lunch time was also observed. Today's lunch consisted of tuna salad, wheat toast, steamed spinach, oranges and milk. All areas of the facility were inspected to include classrooms, kitchen, hallway and bathrooms. The playground was not inspected due to inclement wether. The center has age and stage appropriate materials and supplies. Classrooms have children's art work displayed along with photos of children participating in activities. The facility had the following required information posted: license, last inspection notice, emergency numbers, evacuation maps/procedures, daily schedules, menu and various parent information. The first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were checked and found complete. The inspector interacted with staff and children in care. Five staff records and ten children's records were reviewed. Medications and medication authorizations were reviewed. Staff on site with MAT certification. Staff have current CPR & First aid along with daily health observation training. The most recent evacuation drill was documented on 01/18/2019/2018. The two required shelter-in-place drills for the 2018 year were completed. A shelter-in-place drill for 2019 was documented on 01/25/2019.
