The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing department on May 17, 2019 regarding allegations of inappropriate ratios. The inspection was completed on June 14, 2019. The inspector was on site from 8:23am to 12:30pm. Interviews with staff were completed, and observations were made in the center. The preponderance of the evidence gathered during the investigation supports the allegation; therefore, the complaint is determined to be valid. See the violation notice for more details. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-C Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on staff interviews on 06/14/2019, the center did not ensure that when children are regularly in ongoing mixed age groups, the staff-to-children ratio applicable to the youngest child in the group shall apply to the entire group. EVIDENCE: 1. Staff interviewed stated that on an average of three days a week the infant room is out of ratio in the morning. Staff stated that there are infant and toddlers in that group of children. 2. Staff interviewed stated that two out of three mornings the infant class is out of ratio. That there is between two to five infants/toddlers in the room with one staff when they arrive. 3. Staff interviewed stated that the morning for 30 minutes the infant room is out of ratio. Staff stated that there will be six children with one staff when they arrive. Plan of Correction: Readjust staff morning schedules. Stagger staff in in 15 min intervals.
