- Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed sanitizing diapering surface, emergency evacuation and relocation, labeling bottles, transportation and changes in Barrier Crimes law.
An unannounced renewal inspection of the facility and records was conducted from 10:00am ? 12:45pm. There were 7 children in care, ages 3months to 4 years with the provider and two assistants. There is a total 20 points present. Interviews were conducted with children and caregivers present. Four children?s records and four household and assistant records were reviewed. Children were observed in lunch, transitions, hand washing, rest room routines, teacher and self-directed activities. A walking to tour was made of the back yard play space. Tree stumps were being removed from the backyard. The family day home does transport children to and from school in care occasionally. There is not any medication being administered as no one has obtained Medication Administration Training. The inspector reviewed the center first aid kit, emergency radio and flashlight, and emergency evacuation drills. Violations were found in the following areas and appear as violations on the violation notice: holes in walls and sanitizing diapering surface.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A Description: Based on observation and interview the family day home provider failed to ensure that areas are maintained in safe operable condition. 1 - There is hole in the wall in the infant room that is an inch in diameter. It is within reach of crawling babies. Inside the hole is a cable for internet connection. Additionally, in the bathroom used by children in care there is a hole in the wall that is three quarters of inch in diameter. The hole is behind the door and within reach of children who use this bathroom. 2 - The provider confirmed that the holes are present in the walls. Plan of Correction: The provider will place the proper face plate over the hole for the cable. The hole in the bathroom will be filled and maintained as needed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-B Description: Based on observation and interview the family day home failed to ensure that child-resistant protective covers larger than 1-1/4 inches in diameter shall be installed on all unused electrical outlets and surge protectors accessible to children under five years of age. 1 - There is one outlet in the infant care room that does not have a outlet cover in place. 2 - The provider confirmed that outlet was missing a cover. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection. The provider will ensure that all outlets have proper covers when the outlets are not in use.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-D Description: Based on observation and interview the family day home provider failed to ensure that the diapering surface was sanitized as required. The provider stated that the diaper surface is sanitized with a solution of peroxide and water. This combination does not meet the definition requirements. Plan of Correction: The provider will switch to a bleach water solution today.
