22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 2/25/2016 from 9:50am - 10:55am. There were a total of seven children in care with two caregivers. The ages of the children counted for a total of 18 points. Children were observed during morning program time which included story time, group time and playing with toys with the assistant. One infant was observed napping in his crib and the provider was observed providing care and comfort to the children. Children received morning breakfast which consisted of milk, apple slices and grilled cheese sandwiches. Toileting and hand washing was additionally reviewed. Records were reviewed for four children, the provider, assistant and one household member. The inspector additionally reviewed the following: written emergency plans and practice drills, diapering procedures, the backyard play area, written attendance records, the posted menu, and training. *No medication is being administered at this time.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-800-B Description: Based on record review, the provider failed to review the emergency plan at least annually and update the plan as needed. The provider shall document in writing each review and update to the emergency plan. Evidence: The written emergency plan for the family day home lacked documentation of an annual review and update. Plan of Correction: The emergency plan remains applicable. No changes are needed. Documentation of annual review was noted during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-C Description: Based on record review and interview, the provider failed to maintain documentation of shelter-in-place practice drills. Evidence: 1. The emergency practice log for the family day home indicated that only one shelter-in-place practice drill had been conducted in 2015. Two are required annually. 2. The provider stated a second drill had been conducted however, she had failed to note the second drill on the emergency log. Plan of Correction: The second drill was noted on the emergency log during the inspection.
