54.1-3408 Provider must be MAT certified to administer prescription medication.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 10:00 - 11:30 am with the provider and her assistant. There were eight children in care, ranging from nine months to four years of age, for a total of 24 points. The children were observed having free play with a variety of toys including legos, trucks, dinosaurs, pretend food and play kitchen equipment. Three children's records were reviewed. Three caregiver/household member records were reviewed and in compliance. Childcare areas and supplies were observed. The emergency drill log was reviewed and in compliance. The provider is not Medication Administration Training (MAT) certified and cannot administer medications to children in care. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-900-B
Description: Based on observation a child was allowed to eat while walking around the day care area. Evidence: When the LI arrived, a 22 month old child was observed walking in the day care area while eating a piece of bread.

Plan of Correction: Will make sure that children are always seated while eating.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-100-A
Description: Based on a review of three children's files, the provider did not obtain documentation that each child has received a physical examination before the child's first attendance or within one month after attendance. Evidence: The file for Child #3 (date of first attendance: 4/19/18) did not have documentation of a physical examination.

Plan of Correction: Will ask the parent to provide the documentation by 2/8/19.
