Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 11:39am-1:15pm. There were 38 (toddlers-5yrs.) directly supervised by staff. The physical plant, 1 staff record, 5 children? records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, playing outside, eating outside, preparing for nap. Toileting and hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of books and educational materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, and new staff have completed Orientation. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. The center was clean and organized and the outside area has various sensory activities spread out throughout the outside classroom. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector. 703-479-4679

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on record review of children's files, the center has not maintained documentation of child updates and confirmation of up-to-date information in a child's record annually. Evidence: 1. Two of five children's files reviewed were children who have attended for over a year and both do not contain documentation that the parent's written information (work, home, phone numbers, emergency contact information) are current.

Plan of Correction: We will determine best course of action in having parents confirm information is up to date and begin the annual updates.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center had cleaning materials kept in cabinets that were unlocked. Evidence: 1. A child's bathroom upstairs was not locked and the Inspector observed cleaning bottle inside cabinet. 2. In one of the down stair's class, the Inspector observed another cleaning container inside an unlocked cabinet.

Plan of Correction: Both incidents were corrected during the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-L
Description: Based on record review, the center staff are notifying the parent by end of the day about minor injuries but not all reports include documentation on any future action to prevent recurrence of the injury.

Plan of Correction: We will discuss a plan that involves staff reviewing incidents and preparing a plan to prevent recurrence.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-K
Description: Based on observation, the staff could not sanitize the tables outside before and after each use of children eating their snacks or lunch. Evidence: 1. The children were observed outside sitting at picnic tables and eating. 2. The wooden surface is not a material that can be sanitized before and after each use.

Plan of Correction: Inspector made the suggestion that either provide plastic table covers or long paper sheets that can be disposed of after each group finishes food on the tables.
