Technical Assistance:
During the initial inspection conducted on April 9, 2015 the licensing inspector and the applicant discussed the following: 1. Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Exception: Cleaning supplies to clean and sanitize the diapering area or toilet chairs do not need to be kept locked during diapering or toilet training time, as long as they are inaccessible to children. 2. Required posted information (daily schedules, emergency telephone numbers, and emergency plan). 3. If mounted hooks are used for children's belongings (infant/toddler/2's classrooms), they should not present potential for injury. 4. First aid/emergency supplies (additional triangular bandages and activated charcoal). 5. ?? 63.2-1720 F: Employees are prohibited from working in a position that involves direct contact with a person or child receiving services until a criminal record clearance has been received, unless that person works under the direct supervision of another employee for whom a background check has been completed. Direct supervision means that the employee will remain within sight and sound supervision of an employee with a completed background check. 6. Licensing requirements for outdoor time and ensuring the care, guidance and protection of the children in care while outdoors. 7. Classroom set-up in all classrooms (posted information, furniture, diapering tables/stations, and toys/learning materials).

Comments:
An initial licensing inspection was conducted on April 9, 2015, by appointment, between the hours of approximately 9:00 a.m. and 3:23 p.m. The program was not in operation on this date and no children were in care. The facility and outdoor playground area were toured and all classrooms were measured. Applicable policies, procedures, reports and forms were reviewed and required posted information was discussed. Eleven staff records and three children's records were reviewed on this date. Safety equipment was examined for compliance, including first aid kits, flashlights, radios, and electrical outlet covers. Prior to license issuance, the following is required: Certificate of Occupancy or Building Evaluation Form; Fire approval (inspection report); and revised Emergency plan. The licensing inspector (L.I.) will return for a follow-up inspection prior to recommending license issuance. Thank you for your time and assistance during the inspection process. No violations of licensing standards were cited during this inspection. It is evident that much thought, effort and planning have gone into the renovation of the building, establishment of the infant/toddler/two-year-old building and setting up the classroom environments. Please contact me if you have questions concerning this inspection, the licensing standards and/or if I may be of assistance to you (540) 332-9163.
