Today we discussed rest/nap time, accessing the department website and posting the results of most recent inspection in the center and insurance documentation.
An unannounced renewal inspection of the facility and records was conducted from 12:45 ? 2:45pm. There were 12 children in care with 2 staff members. Interviews were conducted with children and staff present. Five children?s records and three staff records were reviewed. Staff records are stored at a central office. Emergency contact information for each staff employed at this location was reviewed today. Children were observed in transitions from lunch to nap, nap time, hand washing, rest room routines, afternoon snack, story time and teacher and self-directed activities. Violations were found in the following areas and appear as violations on the violation notice: emergency supplies and posting the most recent inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-E Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that required nonmedical emergency supplies are available. Evidence: 1 - When requested to view and operate the emergency flashlight and radio center management provided the inspector with a device was capable of operation as a radio and or a flashlight. However, the batteries in the device were not working. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the device was not working. Plan of Correction: Center management will ensure that all emergency equipment is operational whenever children in care. The site manager made arrangements, during the inspection, to correct the violation.
Standard #: 22VAC40-80-120-E-2 Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that most recently issued violation notice was posted in the center. Evidence: 1 - The posted violation notice is dated 10/3/14. An Acknowledgement form from 1/2015 was also posted. However, the results of 1/2015 inspection were not posted in the center. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the results were not posted. Plan of Correction: Center management will ensure that the results of the most recent inspection are posted after the inspection. The site manager understands that this may mean going to the DSS website to download the inspection results. The results were retrieved from the website during the inspection and posted on the parent information board.
