Technical Assistance:
An exit interview was conducted with the program director, to discuss the results of today's inspection. Consultation was given regarding updated (2014) background check regulations and staff annual training hours.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today, July 14, 2015 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 1:45pm and concluded at 4:15pm. Upon arrival, the following ratios were observed: Two year old classroom: 2 staff/ 11 children Preschool classroom(2 &3 year olds) : 2 staff/ 18 children Preschool classroom (4 year old): 2 staff/ 18 children School Age classroom: 1 staff/ 17 children *19 children were on a field trip during today's inspection Children were observed learning the alphabets & numbers, coloring pictures, interacting with the teacher, and participating in free play. Children books, toys, and equipment were inspected and found to be age appropriate and in operable condition. All classrooms were inspected to include main hallways and children restrooms. The outdoor playground was inspected with the required resilient surfacing and no hazards present. The center had the required postings displayed upon entering the center and in children classrooms. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected with additional supplies found. Annual health and fire inspections were reviewed and found to be updated. Eight children and three staff records were inspected with the required information found. The following was also inspected: medication log, MAT certificates, parent agreements, liability insurance, injury prevention plan, playground safety procedures, and other pertinent information. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on the inspection of administrative records, the required monthly fire drill was not conducted. Evidence: Following the inspection of the monthly fire drill log, it was determined that a shelter-in-place drill was conducted on 4/3/15 however, a fire drill was not conducted for the month. Licensing standards require fire drills to be conducted monthly, which cannot be substituted with a shelter-in-place drill. Documentation should be maintained for review.

Plan of Correction: Per program director: We will make sure that fire drills are conducted monthly even when a shelter-in-place drill is conducted.
