Discussion was held on the topics of current enrollment, current staffing, and medication. Discussion of the most recent fire inspection by the local Fire Marshall was conducted 08/11/2015. The Fire Marshall's office was contacted and a letter from their office was also reviewed. Based on this documentation, their certification is good through 09/30/2015. The center was informed that their annual fire inspection will be conducted prior to expiration.
The following inspection took place between the hours of 10:30 am through 2 pm. Today, I met with the Staff of the Goddard School located in Leesburg, Virginia. At the start of this unannounced monitoring inspection there were a total of 96 children with 14 staff; good ratios in all 9 rooms. A total of 5 children?s files and 3 new staff files were reviewed. The children were engaged in the following: outdoor play on the playground, center's in the room, lunch, hand washing, diapering, nap time, infant feeding, infant napping, art, music, song, reading activities, and other organized activities. If you should have any future questions, please call. Thank you. Charlie Perkins, Licensing Inspector (703) 309-3963
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-420-E-1 Description: Based on observation and interview, the center's daily record for infants (who are awake and cannot turn over by themselves), indicated that the required information was not recorded. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection, the amount of time spent on their stomachs was not recorded. 2. A staff person within the classroom stated (during an interview conducted on the date of inspection) that she would take snapshots of the infants in tummy time, but not record the amount of minutes spent during each period. 3. It was observed that the tablet does contain the category of "tummy time" within the activities section of the daily record. Plan of Correction: The tummy time section will now be completed for all applicable infants on a daily basis.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, the changing pad within the Toddler bathroom was no longer non-absorbent. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (08/27/2015), the Toddler Room's changing pad was torn along the top edge, displaying an approximate 2 inch tear that exposed the padding underneath. 2. The classroom staff confirmed this observation on the date of inspection. Plan of Correction: The pad will be replaced.
