- Technical Assistance:
Discussed entry to the second toilet in the first building to prevent children's access to utility closet. Discussed playground safety plan- include provision for positioning of staff on each playground and stipulation about the number of children permitted on each playground at one time. The Emergency Preparedness Plan needs to be updated to include the additional space that has been added to the building.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted this morning that also included observation and measuring the additional space to increase capacity. The program, classes, ratios, supervision, and interaction between children and staff was observed today. The Inspector also checked medication, staff files, children's files, daily reports, emergency drills, and operational records. Classes were in ratio and staff were involved with the children. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-J Description: Based on staff interviews and record review the Center has not reviewed the accident reports of the last year in order to update the injury prevention plan. Plan of Correction: We will review accident reports and document the update. We will then review with all staff.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation of both buildings, the center has not maintained all of the floors and some baseboards in the first building. Evidence: 1. In the first building, the Inspector observed that the concrete flooring's paint was chipping in places and needed to be resurfaced. In the same room, the Inspector observed that there was a small area on the baseboard that had chipping paint. 2. In the second building, the Inspector observed four floor tiles that were bubbled up in the center and two were cracking. Plan of Correction: We are in the process of placing new floors over the cement floors and baseboards will also be repaired. Int eh second building, we will replace the tiles.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the staff did not lock up a can of Lysol that was observed on the toilet's base. Plan of Correction: Removed during the visit.
