An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today with the owner/director. Seventy three children were present with 10 staff providing supervision. During the inspection, the Licensing Inspector was able to observe two classrooms having snack ( goldfish, oranges, pretzels, cheese, cookies and water), a classroom on the playground, circle time, posted allergy list in the classrooms, emergency medication for two children, four children and staff files. Arrival time: 9:50 am Departure time: 12 noon
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, it was determined that hazardous substances were not kept locked. Evidence: Clorox was unlocked in a cabinet in the Ladybugs (4 year old) classroom; Mop and Glow, Fabulous cleaner, Lysol spray, Hot Shot ant and roach killer, Febreze and hand soap were unlocked in a cabinet in the two year old classroom. Plan of Correction: These hazardous agents were locked during the inspection. We will counsel the teachers on locking hazardous substances.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observation and measurements, it was determined that slides on the two year old playground were within 6 feet of the fence or other play equipment. These slides required a 6 foot fall zone. Evidence: The pink slide was within 3.5 feet of the playhouse; the portable yellow slide was within 2 feet of the fence and the red slide was within 2.5 feet of the tug boat and 1 foot of the fence. Plan of Correction: We will remove and rearrange the slides to ensure at least 6 feet of fall zones for all slides.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the children in two classrooms failed to wash their hands after eating. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector observed the children in the 3 year old room and the JR.K classroom finish their snack and transition to a variety of activities without washing their hands. Plan of Correction: We will retrain the teachers on the need to wash hands after snack.
