We discussed the requirements for updating background checks. The risk assessment for a violation was provided. As a reminder, updated training and records will be due by the beginning months of the next school year. We talked about your schedule for shelter-in-place drills. Sixteen hours of annual staff development participation is needed for this year. I inspected the front playground to/fro swings and composite structure. The components of the composite structure were designed for school age children. We discussed limitations for use by Jr.-K students on the composite structure.
Thank you for your assistance during today's unannounced monitoring inspection conducted from 10:40 AM to 3:00 PM. Today, there were fourteen Junior Kindergarten children with two teachers. Ten of the children stayed for the lunch and afternoon routines. I viewed staffing, supervision, interactions with children, program activities, equipment, emergency supplies and drill records, agency inspection reports, posted information, daily routines, lunch, three records for children, four staff records, staff training, medication, indoor and outdoor areas. I was not able to determine compliance with the resilient surfacing at equipment. The children have had a variety of group experiences with regular story times, discussions, planned learning themes and choices of accessible age appropriate materials in the classroom. The children enjoyed cutting vegetables and preparing soup for a community service worker's lunch at the school. The teachers continue to demonstrate skills with the use of positive approaches to guidance and behavior management. Let me know if you need any assistance. 540-480-3156
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on a review of four staff records, and an interview with administrative staff, the background checks for staff member 3 were not updated before three years from the dates of the most recent records. Evidence: The most recent criminal history record was completed on October 3, 2012. The most recent central registry check was dated October 23, 2012. Plan of Correction: The administrator immediately spoke with staff member 3 about updating the sworn statement and completing the request forms for the two background checks. The background check requests will be mailed this week and obtained for the record. An administrator immediately wrote an email to the office worker who is responsible for tracking the dates of individual staff records and will discuss the use of the staff record chart for the determination of updated information in advance of the due dates. The system for tracking the record needs will be used monthly by office staff.
