22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.
An investigation was conducted on 01/06/2016 from 12:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. to investigate a complaint regarding supervision of children. Interviews were conducted, staff records, children's records and documentation were reviewed. The complaint regarding supervision of children was determined to be valid.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-A Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interviews and video surveillance it was determined that staff did not always ensure care, protection, and guidance while supervising children in care. Evidence: On 12/29/2015 child A (Age 8) requested from staff A to play with a center provided tablet. Child A took the tablet to the top of a loft located in the classroom and proceeded to play with the tablet starting at around 5:15p.m., during that time Child B (Age 7) joined child A on the loft. The children played with the tablet for approximately 30 minutes while staff A and staff B in the classroom cleaned and prepared to transition to a closing classroom. Later that evening it was brought to administration's attention that child A and child B were viewing pornography on the tablet which was later confirmed by staff while reviewing the tablet history. The tablet history indicated that the children viewed the pornography from 5:20p.m. - 5:30p.m. Plan of Correction: All current desktop devices have a subscription to Net-nanny. Net-Nanny is set up to block websites that are not kid friendly and we added several social media websites that will be blocked as well. The Tablets only have a limited number of applications or games that the kids can access. If they try to go someplace else other than those applications then a length password is required to get access. Tablets can only be used at a table and will be monitored by the teachers.
