Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: The center has some standing water in equipment on the playground. Evidence : Based on the review of the physical plant some standing water was found in some of the tires on the playground . Plan of Correction: Will remove the water from the tires. The goats water buckets are cleaned out every day and new water is provided to the goats.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-A Description: An incident in July involving a child did not promote the social emotional well being of the child. Evidence: Based on the review of incident reports and interviews with staff and other people involved, a child left a group of children going from the Toad mountain to the tadpole yard. The child was with two other children. A teacher in the tadpole yard saw the child run to a playhouse to hide and told the other two children to go back to the group and closed the gate. When the teacher went to talk to the child in the play house , she asked the child if she could go to her group or if the teacher had to help her, the child said no. After that the teacher grabbed the child's arm and the child started scratching the teacher. At this point the teacher said you are not allowed to scratch the teacher and stood behind her crossing the child's arms across the child's body and holding the child's hands by her side. The center does use "time machine" and "keeping safe" as a strategy but at this moment the strategy did not meet the needs of the child. Plan of Correction: We have already addresses this. The staff are getting more training in conscious discipline and we are sending people to conferences for this. We will continue to discuss this with staff.
