The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection Thursday, October 27, 2016 from11:15am to 1:50pm The children were observed resting on mats. All classrooms were inspected today as well as the facility?s vans. Three children?s records and four employee records were reviewed during this inspection. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill: 10/19/2016 Last shelter-in-place drills: 3/24/20016 & 3/24/2016 Last fire inspection: 1/25/2016 Last health inspection: 5/26/2016 Total enrollment today: Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Twos & Threes ?21:3 Pre-K ?15:2 School Age ?not present The violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation on 10/27/2016, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. EVIDENCE: A can of disinfectant spray was observed in a cabinet over the sink in the School Age K-1 room. The spray was out of the reach of children and there were no children in the room at the time. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site. Spray locked up.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation and staff interview on 10/27/2016, the center did not ensure that medication, including staff's personal medication, shall be kept in a locked place. EVIDENCE: A bottle of ibuprofen was observed in the cabinet over the sink in the bathroom in the School Age K-1 room. The medication was on a high shelf out of the reach of children, and there were no children in the room during the inspection. According to Staff #5 the medication belongs to staff. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site, medication moved to a locked cabinet.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C Description: Based on observation on 10/27/2016, the center did not ensure that the required first aid kit on the van contained the minimum items. EVIDENCE: The first aid kit on van # VKA 2899 did not contain a thermometer. Plan of Correction: Will purchase today and put on van first aid box.
