Discussed with administration: Required space needed for infants and toddlers outside playtime. 22 VAC 40-185-310 Areas F. Centers licensed for the care of infants and toddlers shall provide a separate playground area for these children that has at least 25 square feet of unpaved surface per infant/toddler on the outdoor area at any one time. This space may be counted as part of the 75 square feet required in subsection B of this section. 22 VAC 40-185-380 Daily activities for toddlers and preschoolers Outdoor activity: c. One hour per day or session if the center operates more than five hours per day or session. Also discussed: Confidentiality of children's authorizations.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. Observed 127 children directly supervised by 25 staff members. Ratios and supervision were in compliance. A sample of children's medication authorization records and 4 staff records were reviewed. The physical plant, medications, emergencies supplies and procedures were also reviewed. The children were engaged in various activities, to include: free play, discussing classroom safety, hula- hooping, infant care, feeding and sleeping routines. Lunch consisting of fish sticks, mixed vegetables, apples, and milk was also observed. Areas of non compliance are identified in this report. The exit interview was conducted with the Director. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based upon observation, cleaning materials were not kept in a locked place as required. Evidence: In the Little Explores classroom classroom there was a bottle of cleaning spray in an unlocked cabinet above sink. In the Soaring Eagles classroom Clorox bleach wipes were on a shelf in the room next to the tables and counter area. Mutiple bottles (11) and soft packages of Wet Ones Antibacterial Hand Wipes marked "keep out of reach of children" were observed stored on a shelf in the eating area for children to have open access to. Each bottle was labeled with individual children's name. Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based upon observation and interview, staff's personal medication was not kept in a locked place as required. Evidence: In the Soaring Eagles classroom Vitamin Supplements and Cranberry supplements were located in the cabinet above the sink and was not locked. Teacher medication in the toddler classroom was sitting on the shelf by the sink next to a staff bag. Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.
