An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted in the Center on January 19, 2017. Upon arrival at 10:50AM, the LI observed 18 children in care with 2 staff supervising their morning activities. As reported, there are currently 19 children enrolled in the program. Two additional support staff were also present in the Center. The LI observed the children as they participated in circle time, music/songs and the Teacher read to the children. The lunch meal was also observed. Staff were observed interacting with the children and redirected as needed. After lunch, the children were observed as they prepared for outdoor play. A sample of 3 children's records was reviewed. Documentation of the annual fire and health inspections was current. A prescribed medication was reviewed for one child. The first aid kit was supplied with the required items and documentation of the Center's emergency drills was complete. Findings of the inspection were reviewed with the Lead Teacher. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on direct observations, the Center failed to ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. If a key is used, the key shall not be accessible to the children. Evidence: At lunch time, the LI observed the lock on the wall cabinet door in the large child care area unlocked. The LI opened the door, cleaning supplies were stored in the cabinet. The LI gave notice to the dietary staff and she immediately locked the cabinet. Plan of Correction: All staff will be reminded to monitor the cabinet on-going to ensure that it is locked at all times.
