Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included documentation of "tummy time;" Incident Report Log; staffing the Infant Room during transitions when new children are present.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place today from 10:45am - 1:15 pm. There were five classes present with 67 children and 12 direct staff. I observed children coming inside after playing outdoors, playing with manipulative toys, singing, eating lunch and napping. The new grassy outdoor area extends the playground, and new soft climbing areas for infants and the soft seating in the reading area are inviting. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: During today's inspection, some areas and equipment of the center were observed to not be maintained in clean/safe/operable condition. Evidence: Indoors: A wooden ladder attached to a diaper table/sink structure was observed to be crooked. A staff member was observed helping children on the ladder to wash hands but the ladder was attached to the sink where it did not fit securely. Vents were observed to be grimy and dusty. The kitchen door was observed to be open when a staff member left and hazardous items were accessible at child height. Outdoors: There was a plastic wall of the play structure that seemed shaky. An empty string bag for balls was observed to be hanging from a fence where it was accessible to children. There was a sharp crack in a trash can lid, the top of the table was cracked and the torn mat created a tripping hazard.

Plan of Correction: Indoors: The ladder was securely attached during the inspection and staff were retrained. Vents will be cleaned this week. The kitchen cabinet will have a lock added. Outdoors: We will contact maintenance about the playground. The bag and rmat were removed, the trash can will be replaced and the top of the table will be covered.
