22VAC40-185 SPECIAL CARE PROVISIONS AND EMERGENCIES.
An unannounced complaint inspection was initiated and completed in the center on June 20, 2017, in response to a complaint that was received regarding the area of special car provisions and emergencies. Related observations were made, documentation was reviewed and interviews were conducted with center staff and with other parties involved. Based on the information obtained during the inspection there was a preponderance of evidence that supports the allegation related to special care provisions and emergencies, and therefore the complaint is noted as valid. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure staff washed their hands with soap and running water before and after helping a child with a diaper change or with any contact with any body fluids. Evidence: During the inspection on June 20, 2017, in room #103 the center staff did not ensure their hands were washed as required. 1) At approximately 11:52 a.m. staff #1 was observed wiping the runny nose of child #1 and did not wash their hands after. 2) At approximately 11:55 a.m. staff #1 was observed wiping the runny nose of child #2 and did not wash their hands after. 3) At approximately 12:15 p.m. staff #3 was observed changing the diaper of child #3, then immediately put away the child's wipes on a top shelf, assisted the child in washing their hands and then cleaned the diaper changing table. Staff #3 then held another child, (child #4) in their arms. Staff #3 had not washed their hands after changing the diaper of child #3. Plan of Correction: The center director will retrain the staff today and tomorrow to ensure all staff receive hand washing training.
