An announced initial inspection was conducted on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from10:15 am to 12:50pm, and Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 3:15pm to 3:55pm. There were no children in care during this inspection as the center has not yet opened for child day care purposes. The inspector met with the owner/program director of the center. The center consists of one classroom that will serve children from 2 to 12 years old. The site also has an outside play area. The classroom is equipped with age appropriate furniture and a variety of toys and learning materials. In addition the room is divided into the different learning centers, art area, library area, dramatic play area. The playground area for outside activity is located behind the center. The center will provide snacks, and the families are responsible for providing their child's lunch. A sample snack menu was posted. Based on the square footage and rest room facilities the center can accommodate 17 children. The center is requesting a licensed capacity for 19 children. Based on square footage and the number of rest rooms facilities, a capacity of 17 is being recommended. Medication will not be administered. Transportation is not provided. The center has submitted all of the required application materials at this time. During the inspection, compliance with some standards could not be determined since the center is not yet in operation. Compliance with these standards will be determined during unannounced visits once the program is in operation. Though some standards of care could not be determined during the initial study, the center is in substantial compliance with the standards that could be determined. A six-month conditional license is recommended. During the conditional period, the center will be subject to unannounced licensing inspections, with the first inspection taking place within the first sixty days of licensure. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-5 Description: Based on a review of staff records and staff interview on 08/03/2017, the center did not ensure that at least one staff member has obtained within the last three years instruction in performing the daily health observation of children. EVIDENCE: 1. Two out of two staff records reviewed did not contain documentation of daily health observation training. 2. Staff #1 stated that both staff did not have daily health observation training. Plan of Correction: Going online to complete training Monday.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C Description: Based on observation on 08/03/2017, the center did not ensure that the required first aid kit contained the minimum items. EVIDENCE: The first aid kit did not contain: 2 triangle bandages, tweezers, gauze tape and thermometer. Plan of Correction: Going to get from Wal-Mart today.
