An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 08/23/2017. There were 16 children, ages 3 years-4 years, and two staff members directly supervising the children present during today's inspection. A third staff member was also on site to drive the bus for student pick-up and drop-off, deliver the meals to the center and to assist as needed. The inspector reviewed 5 children's records during today's inspection. The staff records will be reviewed on a later date as they are kept at an off-site location. There is no medication being administered at this site at this time. The children were observed in the following activities: morning snack, hand washing, outdoor play, circle time, music and movement and lunch. The bus was reviewed during the inspection. Emergency supplies for the facility and the bus were also reviewed. Proper hand washing and table sanitization was observed. The inspector discussed the following with the site staff: first-aid kit requirements and the accessibility of the kit and outdoor play equipment. An exit interview took place at the conclusion of today's inspection to discuss areas of non-compliance. The inspector arrived at 9:00 a.m. and departed at 12:45 p.m. Thank you for your time today. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Forestier at 540-309-2835.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-430-K
Description: Based on observation, the facility failed to ensure that each child had an individual place for their belongings. Evidence: All of the children's backpacks were piled up on the floor on the classroom underneath the coat rack. There was no space for the children to place their belongings.

Plan of Correction: The site staff will have hooks installed for children to hang their backpacks on daily.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-H
Description: Based on observation and discussion with staff, the facility failed to prepare a document containing routes frequently driven by center staff for center business such as pickup/drop off of children to and from schools. Evidence: The emergency document prepared for the bus did not contain an update route of pickup/drop off of children to and from school. The document on the bus was for the 2016-2017 school year and had not been updated for the 2017-2018 school year.

Plan of Correction: The staff will update the emergency document to reflect the route for the 2017-2018 school year.
