Technical Assistance:
Discussed the recent communication regarding fingerprint based background checks for child day programs. Anyone who has lived in another state in the past five years is required to request a check of the child abuse and neglect registry for each state they have lived in the past five years.

Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 10:10am to 12:50pm. The children were observed engaged in a variety of activities. The toddlers were observed listening to music and playing with toys. The Preschoolers were observed singing songs, making a pumpkin craft and playing during center time. The Twos were observed singing songs and going outside to play. The lunch menu was posted, and lunch is to consist of cheeseburger helper, string beans, oranges, a roll and milk. All classrooms and playgrounds were inspected today as well as the facility?s van. Five children?s records and five employee record were reviewed during this inspection. Medication is not being administered. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill: 09/29/2017 Shelter-in-place drills: 03/31/2017 Last fire inspection: 09/19/2017 Last health inspection: 10/12/2017 Total enrollment today: 26 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Toddlers ?5:1 Twos ? 11:2 Threes & Fours ? 10:1 School Age ? not present Violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation on 10/17/2017, the center did not ensure that areas inside the center were maintained in a safe condition. EVIDENCE: Several plastic bags were observed in a cabinet under the sink in the infant room.

Plan of Correction: Corrected on site. The plastic bags were put up high out of the reach of the children.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-K
Description: Based on observation on 10/17/2017, the center did not ensure that tables are sanitized before each use for feeding. EVIDENCE: The tables in the preschool room were not sanitized before that children were served lunch.

Plan of Correction: During a staff meeting on Friday staff will be reminded that tables have to be sanitized.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-570-A
Description: Based on observation on 10/17/2017, the center did not ensure that when a child is placed in a high chair, the protective belt shall be fastened securely. EVIDENCE: The five children in the toddler room were observed in high chairs. None of the safety straps were used.

Plan of Correction: During a staff meeting on Friday staff will be reminded that children have to be buckled in the high chairs.
