Consultation provided on attendance and health inspection and ratios.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today with Administrative staff. Eleven children and one staff was present. Half of the children were napping while the older children were looking at books. Three children had medications on site. Six children and three staff files were reviewed today. Arrival time: 1:35 pm Departure time: 3: 20 pm
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-3 Description: Based on observation and staff interview, it was determined that the center is not maintaining the one staff to eight children ratio. Evidence: There were six napping children with one staff in the Transition classroom at the beginning of the walkthrough, children's ages ranged from 2 to 4 years. During the inspection, five children ( all 5 years of age) arrived into the Transition classroom, none of whom nap, resulting in one staff with 11 children between the ages of 2 to 5 years. The ratio for this mixed age group is one staff to 8 children. Plan of Correction: We will make sure to have a second staff in this classroom when more than 8 children are present.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-450-D Description: Based on observation, it was determined that pillows and pillow pets were being used but not covered with pillow cases. Evidence: Two pillows and three pillow pets were all being used by napping preschoolers and none of them had pillow coverings. Plan of Correction: We will make sure parents provide covering for the pillows and pillow pets.
