22.1 BACKGROUND CHECKS CODE; CARBON MONOXIDE

Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was initiated on May 16, 2024 and concluded on May 20,2024. Seventeen staff were present supervising fifty-two children ranging in age from infants through preschool age. Additional staff were on site for administrative duties. Children were observed playing outside. Licensing Inspector reviewed standards related administration, supervision, daily activities, equipment, emergency supplies and required postings. Five child and five staff records were reviewed. Violation found is noted on the violation notice.

Description: Based on observation, facility did not ensure the diapering surface is only used for diapering or cleaning children.

Evidence: In the older 2's young 3's room, a sheet of child art and a child's shirt was observed laying on the diapering surface.

Plan of Correction: The items will be removed today and staff reminded that diapering necessities only are to be on the diapering table.
