Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for emergency drill procedures. The risk assessment for a violation was provided.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A renewal inspection was initiated on April 30, 2020 and concluded on April 30, 2020. The provider was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection at 1:02 PM. There were four children present, infancy through preschool age (11 points) with the provider. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed three children?s records and two caregiver/resident records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. In addition, caregiver training, menu, and emergency drill records were reviewed. We reviewed the current procedures and practices for illness prevention.

Information gathered during the inspection determined one non-compliance with applicable standards or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. Let me know if you have any questions. 540/430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-A
Description: Based on a review of the emergency drill records, and an interview with the provider, the provider failed to conduct all monthly practices of emergency evacuation procedures. Evidence: There was not documentation of an evacuation drill for February on the form for 2020. The provider indicated that the family day home was closed the first weeks of February and reopened February 18, 2020. However, the next evacuation drill was conducted on March 2, 2020.

Plan of Correction: Whenever child care is provided for only part of a month, there will be a fire drill practiced during that month.
