Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance given and standards regarding children?s records were reviewed.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on October 16, 2023, from 3pm to approximately 4pm. There was one child present totaling two points and the provider. The Inspector reviewed five children?s records and two staff/household records. The Inspectors observed staff and child interactions throughout the inspection. Child was observed during a drawing activity. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented. The violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the center and were reviewed with the provider at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-240-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that areas and furnishings of the family day home, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. Upon walking up to the family day home, the brick steps to the entrance of the home are damaged with pieces of sharp brick exposed and in reach of children. This poses as a tripping and injury hazard to the children in care.
2. Staff #1 confirmed that the brick steps to go into the family day home is damaged and is aware that this is both a tripping and injury hazard to the children in care.

Plan of Correction: The provider responded with the following: The provider will have her husband repair the steps to the entrance of the stairs to ensure that it is safe for the children to walk on.
