Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements.

The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Resources are now available for providers on the "What's New" webpage on the ChildCareVA website at https://www.childcare.virginia.gov/providers/what-s-new.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 5/13/24 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm with the provider. There were three children in care, ranging in age from 20-months-old to five-years-old, for a total of six points. Children were observed coloring, playing with blocks, then making a blanket fort. Three child records, one caregiver record, and five household member records were reviewed. The provider has current certification in CPR and First Aid. The provider does not administer medication at this time and understands that they must obtain certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT) in order to give medication. Lunch served was macaroni and cheese, bananas, milk, eggs, and chickpeas. The first aid kit, flashlight, weather-band radio, and carbon monoxide detector were observed. The emergency drill log, attendance, and menu were also reviewed. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for each violation cited and return to me by close of business on 5/24/24. Plans of correction should include steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard, and measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again.
