The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection from 9:00am - 12:30pm. There were twenty seven children in care ages 2 years - 5 years with five staff supervising. The children were observed playing in the centers, at circle time, playing dress-up, coloring and during lunch. Five staff's records and five children's records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and all had been corrected. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observation and measurement, the center failed to have 6 inches of resilient surfacing in fall zones on the playground. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the playground and measured the resilient surfacing (mulch). There was 2 to 3 inches of mulch surrounding the mat at the end of the metal slide. Fall height of the slide is 6 feet. There was 2 to 3 inches of resilient surfacing surrounding the climbing ladder on both sides of the wood fort. Fall height of the equipment is 3 1/2 feet. Plan of Correction: Additional mulch will be purchased to place in these areas on the playground. Staff will monitor the playground for needed maintenance.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-C Description: Based on observation, the center failed to have a ground support on playground equipment covered. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the playground. One concrete ground support was exposed at the far corner of the wood fort (under the metal slide). Plan of Correction: Additional mulch will be purchased and placed over this concrete ground support.
