Discussion and interviews involving Staff #1 and Staff #2 and their use of behavioral guidance and a forbidden action while supervising children within the Koala Room.
The following inspection took place between the hours of 12:45 pm through 4 pm. Today, I met with the staff of the Imagi-Nation Learning Center located in Chantilly, Virginia. This unannounced Non-mandated Monitoring Inspection (NMI) was conducted as a result of an alleged incident reported by the center to the Division of Licensing. Evidence was gathered through the review of documentation and the interview process. If you should have any future questions, please call. Thank you. Charlie Perkins, Licensing Inspector (703) 309-3963
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-A Description: Based on interview, in order to promote the children's emotional and social well-being a staff person did not provide needed comfort and support. Evidence - 1. Staff #1 stated (during an interview conducted on the date of inspection - 05/16/2018) that on May 10, 2018, between the hour of 11 am and 12 pm noon, she said to the children in the Koala Room, "I'm going to put tape on your mouth if you don't calm down." 2. Staff #1 also stated that she said this because the children were not follow directions. She did not carry out this threat. Plan of Correction: Staff #1 was counseled on this incident and administrative action was taken.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-410-2 Description: Based on interview, it was revealed that children were placed in their classroom bathroom when they were not listening. Evidence - 1. Both Child #1 and Child #2 stated (during separate interviews conducted on the date of inspection - 05/16/2018) that Staff #2 would watch the children within the Koala Room while Staff #1 went on break. 2. They stated that Staff #2 would place those children who she determined were not listening within the girls bathroom and would then shut the door. This door was a half door. Plan of Correction: Staff #2 is no longer employed by the center.
