22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
- Technical Assistance:
Discussion of the newly obtained finger print checks. These national background checks replace the criminal record checks done through the state and are good for 5 years. In addition, the existing search of the central registry (CPS) checks and Sworn Disclosure Statements (SDS) are retroactively good for 5 years from the date of finding (for CPS) or completion (for SDS). As a reminder, new employees will not be allowed to start until an ?Eligibility Letter? is on file, and any new staff person who lives or has lived outside of Virginia within the past 5 years will need to have an out-of-state CPS check requested to be placed in their file as well.
The following inspection took place between the hours of 10:30 am through 3 pm. Today, I met with the Staff of the ImagiNation Learing Center located in Chantilly, Virginia. At the start of this unannounced renewal inspection there were a total of 90 children with 18 staff; good ratios in all 9 rooms. A total of 10 children?s files and 5 staff files were reviewed. The children were engaged in the following: centers within their classroom, story time, song, dance, learning, bathroom breaks, diapering, hand washing, infant feeding, infant sleeping, lunch (taco meat with rice, cheese, cucumbers, bananas, served with milk), and other organized activities. If you should have any future questions, please call or send an e-mail. Thank you. Charlie Perkins, Licensing Inspector (703) 309-3963
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-130-B Description: Based on review, 3 of 10 children's files reviewed indicated that the center did not obtain documentation of additional immunizations once every six months for children under the age of two years. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (08/21/2018), the following children did not have an updated immunization page: Child #2 (last update - 10/18/2017), Child #3 (last update - 06/21/2017), and Child #8 (last update - 09/19/2017). 2. Based on the information contained within their record, on the date of inspection, all listed children were under the age of two years. Plan of Correction: A notice was sent out to all parents on the date of inspection to remind them to update their immunizations. Direct follow-up will be initiated for all applicable children.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, one area inside the center was not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (08/21/2018), within the Elephant 1 room, the far light purple wall, near the back corner, has sustained damage due to the bumping of nearby cribs. 2. Paint chipping was observed on the floor, having fallen off the wall from this damaged area. Plan of Correction: On the date of inspection, staff wiped up the paint chips, and a notice was sent to maintenance to address and fix the damage. In the meantime, cribs shall be moved away from this area and staff shall monitor to prevent access by the children.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F-4 Description: Based on observation, children three years of age or younger were offered foods that were considered to be potential choking hazards. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (08/21/2018), within the Hippo, Crocs, Monkeys, and Tigers rooms (for children three years of age or younger), children were observed being served whole or half bananas. 2. Within the Crocs, Monkeys, and Tigers rooms, children were also observed being served cucumbers that were cut into large hard rounds. Plan of Correction: Classroom staff shall ensure that these items shall be cut into small portions.
