Current Inspector: Chrystal King (804) 297-4469

Inspection Date: Nov. 7, 2018

Complaint Related: Yes

Areas Reviewed:

Thank you for your assistance during this unannounced inspection. This visit was initiated from a complaint that was received in the Valley Licensing Office on November 1, 2018 as a result of the allegation of ratios. Interviews were conducted with three staff. Attendance records for staff and children were reviewed. The information gathered during supports the allegation, therefore the complain is valid. Please complete the plan of correction and return within five business days. If you have any questions and/or if I may be of assistance with licensing standards please contact me at 540-430-9256.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-1
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on review of staff and child attendance records and staff interviews, the center failed to ensure ratios were met in the infant classroom. Evidence: 1. Attendance times were reviewed for staff and children for November 1, 2018. 2. Six infants were in the care of one staff member from 7:49 a.m. until 8:01 a.m. 3. Three staff members were interviewed. Staff #1 confirmed she had six infants without an additional staff member from 7:49 a.m. until 8:01 a.m. when a Staff #2 arrived.

Plan of Correction: I have retrained staff on reminding parents of the policy that they may be asked to not drop off until another staff member is able to arrive. I will send out the drop off policy to parents again to remind them that Bright Beginnings policy is that a staff member may ask them to wait to drop off until another staff member can arrive. The staff member did ask the parent?s not to leave but the parents dropped their children off anyway. The other staff member was in the parking lot and had the parents waited until she walked in we would not have been out of ratio.

In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.
