Comments:
An announced initial inspection was conducted from 8:30am- 11:15am. A tour of the building was completed and staff records were also reviewed. Measurements were taken of the space and the outside play area was inspected.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: The walkway ramp/stairway leading to the day care had ares of the wood that were splintered. Some of the slats on the railing were more than 4 inches wide and areas of lattice were broken.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the owner during the exit interview: The wooden ramp/stairway will be sanded to ensure there are no splintered areas. Broken lattice will be repaired and additional lattice will be placed along the railing.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: There were at least 4 air fresheners located throughout the building. All four were placed in areas that are in reach of children.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the owner during the exit interview: All air fresheners were removed during the inspection and will no longer be used.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not have a foot operated trash can or one that do not required the use of one's hands. Evidence: The center had a diaper pail that required a button to be pressed to discard the diaper and one foot operated trash can that did not open by using the foot petal.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the owner during the exit interview: The diaper genie will not be used. The lid was placed on the trash can incorrectly and was fixed during the inspection.
