An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 8:45am-11:50am. At the time of entrance, 72 children were in care with 21 staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, working on a penguin worksheet, playing with trains, computers, puzzles, legos, looking at rocks with a magnifying glass, art activities, reading books, diaper changes, washing hands and bottle feeding. A selection of staff and children records, the physical space, emergency supplies, evacuation drills, attendance records, medications and the Emergency Preparedness Plan were reviewed. Interactions between the children and staff were positive. The center is clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, areas and equipment inside and outside the center were not maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. In classroom 5, a blue sofa had a large hole around the right corner and the blue chair had small rips on the right side of the chair. 2. The playground border had two warping boards that surround the playground. Plan of Correction: We will order new blue cushions for the chair and sofa. We already have a maintenance request put in to fix the warping boards.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observation, unused electrical outlets were not all covered with a protective cover. Evidence: 1. In classroom 5, one outlet on the surge protector located on the shelf was not covered with an outlet cover. Plan of Correction: It was covered immediately.
