Technical assistance today included physical environment.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 1:20 - 4:00 pm. There were 41 children present in five classrooms, with schoolagers arriving soon. I observed naptime and afternoon transitions; and play with infants and toddlers. Record keeping was well-organized and complete. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on a observation during today's inspection, some areas and equipment of the center were observed to not be maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: Outdoors: There were several sharp edges on the gold colored metal coverings of three of the windows at a height accessible to children in the playground. Indoors: 1. A set of cabinets inside the kitchen had several areas of broken pieces of wood trim. 2. There was chipping paint observed in classrooms. 3. A heavy framed Picasso print was displayed on the top of the dramatic play area in the schoolage room, but it was not secured. 4. There were several dusty vents in classrooms. 5. Heavy frost build-up was observed in the refrigerator Infants' Room. Plan of Correction: Work orders placed for to correct sharp edges on the metal window coverings (accessible metal edges of the window covering were covered with duct tape during the inspection; to correct the broken pieces of wood trim in the kitchen, to remove and clean vents, to assess and correct chipping paint . Facilities Technician is scheduled to come by Friday (12/14) to complete work orders. The Picasso picture has been removed from the classroom. The infant refrigertaor will be defrosted by Friday 12/14.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there were areas under and around outdoor play equipment that did not have a required amount of resilient material. Evidence: There were some areas under the slide that were observed to have less than six inches of mulch. Plan of Correction: Work orders placed to increase the mulch in all fall zones. Facilities technician is scheduled to come by 12/14 to complete work orders.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-G Description: Based on a review of children's medications today, there was a prescription medication that did not have an authorization present. Evidence: Of four medications available today, one of the emergency allergy medications for Child # 1 did not have a parent's authorization available today. Plan of Correction: The medication was sent home with a new authorization form for the parent and doctor to fill out.
