Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection from 9:20am - 11:45am. There were thirty two preschool children in care: fifteen children in classroom one with two staff and seventeen children in classroom two with four staff. The children were observed at circle time, at story time, listening and moving to music and preparing for lunch. Four staff's records and five children's records were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. If you have any questions, please contact your licensing inspector at (276) 608-3758. Thank you for your cooperation.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to have all hazardous substances stored in a locked place. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed classroom 2. There was a container of bleach water sitting on top of the microwave.

Plan of Correction: The teacher placed the container of bleach water in a locked cabinet during the inspection and will monitor to ensure all hazardous substances are stored in a locked place.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on record reviews, the center failed to document practiced evacuation drills and failed to practice two shelter-in-place drills per year. Evidence: 1. The inspector reviewed the documentation for practiced drills. There were no evacuation drills documented for classroom 2 for the months of September, October, November and December 2018. There was only one documented shelter-in-place drill for the center in 2018.

Plan of Correction: The teacher in classroom 2 said the evacuation drills were practiced, but were not documented. All future drills will be documented. Two shelter-in-place drills and an additional shelter-in-place drill will be practiced this calendar year.
