An unannounced Renewal inspection was conducted this date. A total of 92 children with 15 staff were on site. Observation of all occupied classrooms was made. Children were observed finishing lunch. Lunch today was pasta, broccoli, peaches and milk to drink. Ample supply for second helpings if the children requested. The classes were found well maintained. Walls were decorated with current activities and art work the children completed. Volcanos and the book, The Mitten was on display with mittens the children had constructed out of paper. The older children were observed drawing their homes and writing their addresses below. Teachers were knowledgeable of evacuation procedures and those on medication and food allergies. Upcoming mandatory staff meeting scheduled next week which will cover transitions and SIDs training. A total o f 10 children's records, 5 staff records, all medications and authorizations were reviewed. Previous violations were reviewed, staff interviews conducted to determine competency of the training that was included in the corrective actions. This inspection began at 11am and ended at 1:20pm. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-130-A Description: Based on review of 10 child records, 3 out of 10 did not have immunizations prior to enrollment. Evidence: Child #1, #3 and #5 began care prior to the center obtaining documentation of immunizations. Plan of Correction: We will review each new enrollment prior to the start date to ensure immunizations were obtained.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-M Description: Based on observation of the classrooms, staff did not sit with children during meal times. Evidence: Staff in the Intermediate 1 and 2 classes did not sit with children at lunch. Staff were observed assisting children with toileting and setting up cots for nap time. Plan of Correction: We will be covering transitions with all staff during the staff meeting and remind staff that they are required to sit with children anytime they are eating.
