An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 2/26/19 from 10:00am until 12:40pm. At the time of the tour, there were 81 children in care with 9 staff. A sample of 8 children's records and 8 staff records were reviewed. A license modification request was made by the facility to expand the current licensed program to include infants. Areas and equipment were reviewed and the space was measured. Children were observed participating in morning learning activities, playing outside and eating lunch. Restroom, hand washing and table sanitizing procedures were also observed. Medication, the emergency preparedness plan, first aid and emergency supplies, documentation of emergency practice drills, children's injury reports and center postings were reviewed. One violation in the area of background checks is identified on the violation notice and was discussed with the Head of School during the exit interview.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3 Description: Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that staff who have lived outside of the state of Virginia within the past 5 years obtain a central registry check from that state. Evidence: 1. Staff 1 has a hire date of 10/24/18. Staff 1 indicated on her sworn statement or affirmation that she has resided in the state of North Carolina within the past five years. There is no documentation that a request for an out of state central registry check was sent to North Carolina for staff 1. 2. Administrative staff confirmed that an out of state central registry check was not requested for staff 1. Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The background check for out of state was completed and sent on 2/25/19.
