An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 9:45am-11:45am. There were 76 children directly supervised by 13 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 7 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in large group reading and recitation, independent reading, puzzles, drawing self portraits, working on writing their names and the letter "Ww". Teachers were observed cleaning and sanitizing tables, reading to children and promoting children to get along and be participate responsibly in class. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-5 Description: Based on record review, there was not always at least one staff member on duty who has obtained within the last three years instruction in performing the daily health observation of children. Evidence: On the date of inspection no one present at the center had a obtained within the last three years instruction in performing the daily health observation of children. Plan of Correction: We will schedule a staff training for Daily Health Observation as soon as possible.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on medication review, the center did not dispose of medication remaining at the center for over 14 days after the expiration of the authorization. Child A dis enrolled from the center in December of 2018. Medication for Child A was present at the center on the date of inspection (3/7/2019). Plan of Correction: We will contact the parents in an attempt to return the medication. If we are unsuccessful we will dispose of the medication properly.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Description: Based on record review, the center did not practice a monthly practice evacuation drill and a a minimum of two shelter-in-place practice drills per year. Evidence: 1. The most recent recorded evacuation drill was conducted on 10/19/2018. 2. There are no documented shelter-in-place drills having been conducted since 2017. Plan of Correction: Monthly evacuation and biannual shelter-in-place drills will be practiced and documented.
