An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 03/11/2019. Present during the inspection were 30 children, ages 5 years-12 years, in the direct care and supervision of 4 staff. There was an additional support staff member present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed 5 children's records and 4 staff records during the inspection. The staff stated that there was no medication on-site. The children were observed in the following activities: returning from a walk, participating in large motor play in the gym, during lunch and swimming. The inspector reviewed the emergency plans and the emergency supplies during the inspection. The inspector discussed children's allergies with the staff. The inspector arrived for the on-site inspection at 9:45 a.m. and departed at 1:15 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Forestier at 540-309-2835.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-M Description: Based on observations, the facility failed to ensure that staff shall sit with children during meal times. Evidence: None of the 4 staff members present during the meal time sat with the children. Staff were observed walking around the table and sitting in the floor to eat lunch. Plan of Correction: The Child Care Coordinator will ensure that a staff member will sit with children at meal times.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-N Description: Based on observations, the facility failed to ensure that no child shall be allowed to drink or eat while walking around. Evidence: Three children were observed eating/drinking while walking around during lunch time: one child was observed walking around the gym drinking a juice box, one child was observed eating a bag of cheese crackers while walking around gym and one child was observed drinking a sports drink while walking around the gym. Plan of Correction: The Child Care Coordinator will ensure that staff understand that children must be sitting while eating and drinking.
