Technical assistance was provided in the following areas of the standards: Background checks; 22VAC40-185-(2)-70-A (Staff records); 22VAC40-185-(4)-330 (Play areas)
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 5/2/19 from 9:30am - 11:30am. During the inspection there were 20 children ages three years old through five years old in care with five staff. Children were observed participating in various activities in the classrooms, eating snack and going on a field trip to the museum located on the campus at Hampton University. Records were reviewed for five children and five staff. Medication, emergency procedures and emergency supplies were reviewed during the inspection. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice and were discussed during the exit interview.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation and interviews, it was determined that the licensee did not ensure that all children wash their hands with soap and running water before and after eating meals and snacks. Evidence: 1. The Licensing Inspector observe the children while on a field trip at the museum start eating thier snack without washing their hands. Plan of Correction: The facility responded: Staff have been trained previously to use wipes when on field trips if no running water and soap is available. We will re-train staff on all hand washing procedures.
