An unannounced inspection was conducted between 11:00am - 12:30pm. Upon arrival there were 28 children in care with 7 staff present. A sample of 5 children and 2 staff records were reviewed. There was one child inc are with a diagnosed food allergy. Children were observed during lunch, hand washing and nap.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The outside building had paneling secured by rusted bolts. When wiped with a tissue, an orange residue came off. Children use chalk in this area. 2. There was peeling paint on the wall throughout the building, specifically in the bathroom hallway, the wall between the kitchen and classroom and in the front classroom wall underneath the television. Children were observed sitting on the floor against and facing the wall in the bathroom hallway with peeling paint. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the licensee during the exit interview: All maintenance needed will be repaired: walls will be repainted and bolts replaced.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all requirements were met when hand washing. Evidence: A staff member was observed serving children food. She put on gloves, however did not wash her hands before. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the licensee during the exit interview: The owner will remind all staff that hands should be washed prior to serving food, even if putting on gloves.
