22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was made on 4/30/19 in response to a self reported incident of a staff person giving a four year old child coffee to drink on multiple occasions. Four staff were interviewed on this date and the child's record was reviewed. The administrator of the facility was also interviewed. Based on these interviews, there was a violation of the Standards related to the incident. The inspection was completed on 5/16/19 and sent to the facility on that date.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-A Description: Based on interviews, the center failed to ensure that staff who was in charge of supervising children always ensured their care, protection, and guidance. Evidence: 1. Staff #1 disclosed that brewed coffee was given to a four year old child in care on multiple occasions, approximately four times. The coffee, according to staff #1, was brewed at the home of staff #1 and was brought to the center in a container. 2. Staff #3 witnessed staff #1 giving the child the coffee on more than one occasion. Staff #2 stated that she was aware of the coffee being given to the child on multiple occasions. Plan of Correction: 1) The staff member involved in this incident is no longer working at the Andy Taylor Center. 2) All employees will be completing the Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding for Educators online module (CWSE5691). 3) All new employees will discuss, in initial orientation, our policy on sharing food and beverages with children.
