An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 8/7/19 from 10:40am until 12:40pm. At the time of the tour, there were 37 children in care with 9 staff present. A sample of 5 children's records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Children were observed eating lunch, resting quietly during nap time and participating in afternoon activities. Hand washing, restroom and lunch service procedures were also observed. Medication, transportation, first aid and emergency supplies, the emergency preparedness plan, documentation of emergency practice drills, children's injury reports and center postings were reviewed. One violation in the area of administration is identified on the violation notice and was discussed with the center owner during the exit interview.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that staff records contain documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment. Evidence: 1. The record for staff 1 contained only one reference check, where two are required. 2. The center owner confirmed that only one reference check was completed for staff 1. Plan of Correction: This was an oversight by administration as the second reference person for staff 1 had been called; however, they were not available at the time of the call and a follow-up call was not made. Administration will contact the second reference today and will document the results in staff 1's record.
