Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 8/30/19. There were 23 children present in two classes with five staff directly supervising and one additional staff person (site administrator) present in addition to assist as needed. Five children's records and five staff records were reviewed. Four as needed medications were reviewed. The inspector arrived at the school at 9:05 am and departed at 11:15 am. The children were observed during outside times, during a fire drill, during free time in centers in the classrooms which included art activities, tablet learning games.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1.There were hazardous substances observed in a classroom closet with an open and unlocked door. The items observed on a shelf inside the closet approximately three feet from floor level were: carpet and upholstery cleaner with brush applicator, rubbing alcohol, and acetone nail polish remover. All of the items stated "Keep Out of the Reach of Children" and other cautions/warnings on the label.

Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection. The items were moved to a locked cabinet.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center failed to ensure that there was a menu for the week of foods provided. Evidence: 1.There were no foods listed on the menu posted for the date of the inspection. The public school provides the food for the center and the center uses the public school menu. The menu for lunch on August 30 was blank; the rest of the week had the lunch menu for each day listed.

Plan of Correction: The site administrator will write in the foods on the menu that are served for lunch.
