An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed today between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm. There were 17 children present directly supervised by 5 staff. The children were observed singing and playing with musical instruments, playing outside, hand washing and eating lunches from home. The physical plant, playground, children's records, staff records, emergency supplies, emergency plans and medications were inspected. Areas of non compliance are cited on the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances will be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
In the toddler room, cleaning products were in an unlocked cabinet.Plan of Correction: Locked during inspection. I will remind staff to keep the cabinet locked.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-C Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that diaper ointment was not accessible to children.
Evidence:
In the toddler classroom, diaper ointment was stored in bins that were accessible to children.Plan of Correction: Removed during inspection, we will lock diaper ointments in cabinet under the changing table.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that food brought from home contained required information.
Evidence:
1) In the toddler room 1 lunch box was not labeled with the current date.
2) With preschool lunches, one lunch box did not have any labels and a second lunch box did not contain the current date.Plan of Correction: Labeled during inspection. Staff will remind parents to label lunches from home with the child's name and current date.
