22VAC40-185 SPECIAL SERVICES.

Technical Assistance was offered regarding Health and Medication forms, Immunization records, acceptable methods of feeding for infants and background checks.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:45 am-12:10 pm. 43 children were in direct care with 10 staff members present. Children were observed engaged in structured group activities including circle time, playing with table top manipulatives, music and outdoor play time. Children were observed learning about days of the week, colors and different types of apples. Children's art was displayed in the center. 5 staff and 5 children's records, medications and other documents were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, caregivers did not ensure that the diapering surface was cleaned after each diaper change.
1. In the Ducklings classroom, Staff # 1 was observed changing a diaper.
2. Staff # 1 did not clean the diapering surface with soap and water before sanitizing the surface with bleach and water.
Plan of Correction: Staff will be restrained.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on record review, the center did not obtain written parental and physician's authorization for a prescription for a child in care.
1. In the Grasshopper's room, Child # 2 had a prescription allergy medication.
2. The center did not obtain written parental and physician's authorization for the medication.
Plan of Correction: We will follow up with the parents and remind them to bring in the written authorization.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-A Description: Based on observation, an over the counter skin product was kept at the center after the expiration date.
Evidence: A skin moisturizer was found in the Ducklings classroom that had expired in June 2019.
Plan of Correction: The moisturizer will be removed from the classroom and returned to the parent.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-570-B Description: Based on observation, bottles were used in the designated sleeping area for infants.
Evidence: Child # 1's milk bottle was in the crib when he was waking up from nap. Child # 1's milk bottle was given to him while he was in the crib.
Plan of Correction: Staff was retrained and the bottle was removed from the crib during the inspection.
