Technical Assistance:
Although the S Hooks on the children's playground swings comply with the Standards, it is recommended that they be further closed or replaced with hooks that close completely.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were 49 children in care, with a total of 6 staff members assigned to their direct supervision. Children's records, background checks, staff training documentation, the indoor/outdoor physical plant, children's medications, classroom programming and interactions, children's nutrition, and emergency preparedness items were inspected today.

The children were observed having class pictures taken, playing outside, engaging in a wide variety of classroom Montessori activities, and eating lunch. Some children bring lunch from home, while other children order lunch from the food vendor's menu options.

This inspection was completed between approximately 10:15am and 11:45am. Thank you for meeting with me today. If you have any questions regarding this inspection please email me at sandra.dimperio@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-A

Staff B began employment on 9/30/19. There is no record of completed First Day Orientation Training for this staff person.

Plan of Correction: We will do the training with her when she comes in during the afternoon hours.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that various potentially hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
In Room 2, various cleaning products are stored inside the storage closet that opens into this classroom. The door to this storage closet was not locked.

Plan of Correction: The door was immediately locked during the inspection. Staff will be reminded to keep the door locked.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on a review of new staff background checks, it was determined that management staff have not submitted one required out of state central registry background search.
Evidence:
Staff B began employment on 9/30/19. Her staff record includes documentation indicating that she resided outside of the state of Virginia within the past 5 years. Management staff have not submitted an out of state central registry search request for the state in which she resided.

Plan of Correction: The correct out of state search request form was located immediately during the inspection. I will make sure the form is completed today and the search request will be submitted. I will forward documentation of the search request submission to the Inspector within 10 days as required.
