Discussed locking cabinets containing hazardous items each time that they are accessed.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on November 26, 2019 from 10:30am until 12:00pm. Upon arrival to the facility, there were 77 children present with 16 staff members. The children were observed participating in age appropriate activities, outdoor play, hand washing and diapering. A sample of 7 children's records and 7 staff records were reviewed. The licensing inspector toured the facility and reviewed supervision, emergency supplies, practice drills, nutrition, physical plant, required postings, and administration. There was a violation cited in the area of pysical plant. An exit meeting was conducted with the facility director prior to the end of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based upon observation the provider did not ensure that hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
1. During the inspectors tour of the facility it was found that a cabinet located in the two year old classroom was unlocked and contained hazardous substances was not made inaccessible to children.
a. The unlocked cabinet contained 2 spray bottles of sanitizer solution and could have been could be a potential hazard to children.
b. There were children in the preschool room during the time the violation was observed.
c. The director toured the two year old room with the inspector and also identified and confirmed the violation.
Plan of Correction: Will correct immediately.
