Comments:
A Subsidy Health and Safety inspections was conducted on 12/30/2019 from 10:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. to review supplemental health and safety requirements. At the time of the inspection 10 children were in care with two staff present, one additional staff member and administrator arrived during the inspection. Five children records, four staff records, three injury reports, evacuation drills, first aid kits, emergency supplies, health inspection, and posted required information was reviewed. Children were observed during free play which included building, legos', reading, a sensory activity making snow, an art activity creating an edible igloo, handwashing, lunchtime, quiet activities, large group activity, behavioral guidance, and games. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. Exceptions to compliance are noted on the violation notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-580-B
Description: Based on review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that staff had completed the Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care staff within the first 90 days of employment.

Evidence:
1. Staff #3 had not completed the Virginia Preservice Training within the first 90 days of employment. Date of hire was 08/15/2019. The training should have been completed by 11/15/2019.
2. Staff verified the date of employment for Staff #5, and that the training had not been completed in the required time frame.

Plan of Correction: Administration will speak to the employee and have the training completed immediately.
